Every Mumbaikar needs to be grateful to Subhajit Mukherjee who is known as ‘The Green Man’ for his efforts in driving the mass movement of tree plantation in and around Mumbai. With his passion and dedication, he and his team have been able to plant over 60,000 trees, amplifying the green cover of the city. Subhajit had the vision to enhance the sustainability of the planet Earth, and he knew that the key to achieving this was through tree plantation. As the founder of Mission Green Mumbai, Subhajit is on a mission to address all the crucial environmental issues facing the planet. Mission Green Mumbai is tailor-made for Mumbai and aligned with Mission Green India. It focuses on addressing the health and well-being of Mumbaikars while mitigating the damaging impact of climate change. With over 2000 volunteers, Subhajit focused on three major areas: The Protection and Nurturing of Existing Trees, Plantation of New Native Trees in a scientific manner, and Awareness Initiatives on Innovations on nature conservation. Subhajit’s innovations in the field of Rainwater Harvesting have led to the development of one of the most economical RWH Percolation Barrels, resulting in 10,000 installations nationwide and efficient Rain Water management, leading to substantial water saving. His initiatives also include free site inspections for harvesting through video calls and online training materials to #Catchtherain, as well as conducting 160 webinars under Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan to address the flood situation in Mumbai. Subhajit’s ‘Train-the-Trainer’ initiative has made ‘Water Conservation’ a national movement, involving 400 Municipal Corporations across India, with the support of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. He believes that without taking care of our natural resources, we would have no future. He invokes every individual to grow their own oxygen by planting a tree and asserts that without planting trees, an individual did not have the right to breathe. Subhajit's efforts did not go unnoticed. He was recognized for his exemplary work and was bestowed with many prestigious awards, including the Mother Teresa Memorial Award presented by the Honorable Governor of Maharashtra. Subhajit's story is one of passion, dedication, and commitment. He is an inspiration to us all, showing us that we each have the power to make a difference in the world. With his tree plantation movement and other initiatives, he is creating a lasting impact on the environment and the planet.
