In a historic first, TSAT-1A, India's first privately constructed sub-meter resolution earth observation satellite, was launched by Tata Advanced Systems Ltd. (TASL) and Satellogic. A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida successfully launched the satellite, which weighed less than 50 kg, into orbit on April 7. This launch highlights Tata's expanding influence in the aerospace industry and represents a noteworthy turning point in India's space capabilities. Air India Places Record Order for 470 Planes From Airbus and Boeing

Air India, the national carrier of India, has placed an order for 470 planes from Airbus and Boeing, which is the largest single order in the commercial aviation history. The order includes 270 planes from Airbus and 200 planes from Boeing, with a total value of around $100 billion at list prices.   The order comes as part of Air India's plans to expand and modernize its fleet in order to meet growing demand from passengers. With this new order, Air India will be able to add more destinations and frequencies, while also improving the overall experience for its passengers.   The mega deal will create over 2,00,000 jobs in India, directly and indirectly, according to top aviation sector experts.   The order includes a mix of narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, including the Airbus A320neo, A321neo, as well as the Boeing 737 MAX and 787 Dreamliner.   Air India's decision to place such a large order highlights the growing demand for air travel in India; it is expected to become one of the largest aviation markets in the world over the next decade, with Indian government planning to build 80 new airports.

India To Get a Swanky New Parliament Building by January End

The construction of the new Parliament building is slated to get over by January end as finishing touches are being made to the interior at a breakneck pace. The Central Vista, the country's power corridor, is being renovated, and it includes the new Parliament building. A grand constitution hall showcasing India's democratic legacy would be included in the new Parliament building in New Delhi, along with a library, many committee rooms, dining places, and plenty of parking. The project is being carried out by the CPWD, which is under the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry. It includes remodeling the three km Rajpath from the Rashtrapati Bhavan to the India Gate, building a common central secretariat, a new prime minister's office, and residence, and creating a new vice-president enclave. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the new, state-of-the-art Parliament building in December 2020. A decision on whether the entire session or just the second half, which starts after a break in March, will be held in the new building has yet to be made, according to sources in the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry. The triangular new building, designed by Ahmedabad-based HCP Design, Planning, and Management, is being built by Tata Projects.

India’s First Green Taxi Fleet Launched in Kerala

It is the need of the hour to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and reduce our carbon footprint to combat climate change. The use of electric vehicles is a great step towards achieving this end. So when the country's first green taxi fleet was launched by MGS in Kerala, it did spell good news. Dr Shashi Tharoor inaugurated the green taxi service by taking the first ride. MGS is one of the largest travel operators in Kerala and it launched the country’s green taxi service by adding 10 Tata XPRES-T electric cars to its 400+ fleet. MGS has plans to further increase its fleet of green taxis to 100 in a year. Managing Director of MGS, M S Anilkumar said that it has become imperative now to usher in the green revolution and they are happy to have launched India’s first fleet of green taxis.  Currently, the company’s operations of its fleet are based at four international airports and four information technology parks. The best thing about green taxis is that apart from reducing operating costs, it also contributes to the environment by decreasing the dependence on fossil fuels and reducing pollution levels. Let's hope that this green initiative catches up with the rest of India.

Dhaaga- a Step Towards Women’s Empowerment

The only way to uplift women and make them self confident and self-reliant is through financial empowerment. Keeping this in mind, India’s largest integrated power company Tata Power launched Dhaaga – a store where women can showcase their talent. The first Dhaaga store was launched in Delhi in collaboration with Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (TPDDL). It is a step towards honoring the craftsmanship of the talented women and in the process making them financially independent. Not Just A Store, But A Movement Dhaaga is not just a store. It started as a movement in 2017 in Kamshet village of Pune where a self-help group of 15 women and a garment making unit was set up. Soon the movement spread to 16 locations across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha. Region Specific Arts The initiative encourages and promotes region-specific arts and crafts. They include Kutchee handicrafts in Mundra and Tiger Grass Handicrafts in Maithon, Jharkhand. The Dhaaga store will bring such unique arts to the fore so that they gain popularity and the skilled artisans can benefit financially. Jamshedpur: The Forgotten War Zone - A Crucial Role in Both World Wars

Jamshedpur, known as India's steel city, has a fascinating and lesser-known history as a war zone. Despite its current image as a bustling industrial town, Jamshedpur played a crucial role in both World Wars, supplying essential resources and contributing to military campaigns. Let's delve into the untold story of Jamshedpur's active participation in the wars that shaped the world. Jamshedpur's Origins and Vision: Founded by Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, an astute businessman, Jamshedpur was conceived as a model industrial town. Its wide streets, lush gardens, and designated spaces for various religious institutions were meticulously planned. This vision laid the foundation for the future steel city, which would soon become a significant player on the global stage. World War I: A Turning Point for Jamshedpur: When World War I broke out in 1914, Tata's steel mill proved invaluable to the war effort. The steel output from Jamshedpur was redirected towards constructing rails for military transportation, spanning vast distances across Mesopotamia, Egypt, and East Africa. The contribution of nearly 1,500 miles of rail and 300,000 tonnes of steel was acknowledged as indispensable for the military campaigns. World War II: Jamshedpur's Defenses and Contributions: As World War II erupted in 1939, Jamshedpur once again rose to prominence. The steel sheds, water pipes, sleepers, shells, and guns produced in Jamshedpur were vital for the war effort. The steel from this industrial city played a critical role in stopping the Japanese advance into China. To protect the high-value target that was Jamshedpur's steel plant, the British implemented various measures, including setting up bomb shelters and deploying anti-aircraft guns. Ingenious Defense Strategies: Tata Steel devised innovative methods to safeguard its operations. Steel ropes tied to gas balloons were deployed to deter Japanese fighter planes from bombing the mill. Tar boilers were strategically placed throughout the factory to create smokescreens that blended with the chimneys' fumes, providing cover. Factory hooters served as air raid sirens, alerting workers to take necessary precautions. Allied Forces and Accommodations: As the Japanese attacks on Jamshedpur intensified, Allied forces were stationed in the city. However, the lack of proper hotels posed a challenge. Bartholomew D'Costa, an enterprising Anglo-Indian, and his son stepped up to build The Boulevard Hotel using bricks from their kiln and cutlery purchased from a closing-down hotel in Calcutta. This resourceful solution provided accommodations for British and American troops during the war. Jamshedpur's Role in Armored Vehicle Production: During the war, when Britain faced a shortage of Armored Fighting Vehicles (AFVs), Commonwealth countries were called upon to contribute. Jamshedpur's Tata Steel played a crucial role in this endeavor. Using Ford truck chassis imported from Canada and armor-plated hulls manufactured by Tata Steel, India produced a series of Wheeled Armored Carriers known as the 'Tatanagar.' Between 1940 and 1944, 4,655 units of Tatanagars were built at the Railway workshop in Jamshedpur, making a significant contribution to the war efeffort Jamshedpur's remarkable history as a war zone is often overshadowed by its present-day identity as an industrial hub. However, its contributions during both World Wars were crucial to the war efforts. From supplying steel for railway construction to producing armored vehicles, Jamshedpur played a pivotal role in shaping the outcomes of these global conflicts.
