What followed was a career defined by resilience and consistency. Across formats, Dravid represented India 509 times, a staggering achievement that reflects his longevity and importance to the team. In Test cricket, he scored 13,288 runs in 164 matches at an average of 52.31, including 36 centuries. In One Day Internationals, he accumulated 10,889 runs in 344 matches, with 12 centuries and 83 half-centuries. Dravid also played one T20 International, against England in Manchester, but his legacy was primarily built in Tests and ODIs. He was a pillar of India’s iconic batting line-up alongside legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman. Shyamala Goli, a 52-year-old swimmer from the Kakinada district of Andhra Pradesh, recently completed a remarkable 150 km swim across the Bay of Bengal, defying age! Starting from the shores of Visakhapatnam on December 28, 2024, she swam tirelessly for five days, averaging 30 km each day, until she reached her destination in Kakinada. This feat wasn’t just a personal triumph, but a shining example of what one can achieve when determination, grit, and passion take center stage.Her incredible journey, watched closely by the Coromandel Odyssee Ocean Swimming Organisation, was supported by a dedicated team of 14 members. This crew, which included medical professionals and scuba divers, ensured her safety and well-being as she ventured through the unforgiving waters of the Bay of Bengal.Shyamala’s journey reflects the power of resilience and the human spirit. She started her swimming journey at the age of 40. She was running an animation studio with her husband which faced immense financial challenges. The closure of her studio didn’t deter her spirit; instead, it fueled her passion for swimming. It was during this time that she joined a swimming camp, where she nurtured a love for the sport that would eventually lead her to achieve some of the most remarkable feats in open water swimming.Shyamala’s recent 150 km swim is not her only milestone. In 2021, she made waves in the open water swimming community when she became the second Indian woman to swim across the Palk Strait. Her achievement took an impressive 13 hours and 43 minutes. Later that same year, Shyamala achieved another remarkable milestone when she swam 38 km across the waters of the Lakshadweep Islands, from Kiltan Island to Kadmat Island, in 18 hours and 35 minutes. This feat made her the first Asian to achieve this double accomplishment in the same year.While Shyamala's journey is undoubtedly an awe-inspiring achievement, it was not without its challenges. As she swam through the open sea, she encountered playful dolphins and turtles, which she described as a sign of nature’s friendly presence. However, the sea can also be a dangerous place, and Shyamala encountered jellyfish and even a giant whale during her swim. Reflecting on this encounter, she shared how her crew advised her to board the boat when the whale approached. Despite whales being generally friendly, their enormous size can evoke fear, and Shyamala trusted the crew’s judgment for safety.In a heartfelt moment, she explained how the sea creatures’ playful nature provided her with a sense of companionship and comfort as she swam through the open waters. These encounters added a sense of magic to her journey, reminding her that nature has its own way of welcoming those who dare to dream big.Shyamala Goli's 150 km swim across the Bay of Bengal is an inspiration to people of all ages. She ran an outstanding 50.92 seconds in the women's 400-meter event at the inter-state athletics championships in Panchkula. Not only did she qualify for the Olympics this time, but it was also a personal best. The Athletic Journey of Kiran Pahal ~  In the National Inter-State Athletics Championship semifinals, Kiran easily beat the Olympic qualifying time of 50.95 seconds with a 400-meter performance that took 50.92 seconds. This accomplishment demonstrates her extraordinary talent and commitment. Her Panchkula result puts her in the top group of athletes who have achieved the high requirements needed to compete in the Olympics. Hima Das holds the national record at 50.79 seconds. Kiran's commanding lead throughout the race, especially in the final stretch, demonstrated her superiority. At the Ranchi National Open in 2019, she had a milestone as she lowered her personal best time from 55.18 seconds in 2018 to 52.73 seconds. Kiran Pahal won the gold in the women's 400-meter race at the National Championships in 2022 as a result of her persistent hard work towards the podium. Tavish came from a sporting family; both his father and older brother were tennis players, thus Tavish knew that tennis was his natural calling. He was also lucky to attend Shiv Nadar School in Faridabad, which actively encouraged pupils' interest in participating in sports. Alla Radha, a 30-year-old native of Eluru in Andhra Pradesh is a force to be reckoned with in the world of martial arts. Against her parents' wishes, Radha began her journey in martial arts when she was just 15 years old. Despite her parents' reservations, Radha proved her mettle by winning her first gold medal at a district-level competition. Radha's achievements are nothing short of exemplary. According to a report in The New Indian Express, she has won 20 gold medals in national-level competitions and 7 gold medals in international-level competitions. Moreover, Radha has set a record by teaching martial arts to over 5,000 young men and women, ranging from constables to sub-inspectors in the police force. Despite getting married at a young age, Radha continued to practice and teach karate. Her passion for martial art led her to become a 4th Dan black belt holder and a referee, after successfully passing the Karate India Organisation test. Radha's ultimate goal is to become an Asian Lady Referee. Radha's journey has not been without struggles. She faced gender discrimination and societal pressure, but she persevered and emerged victorious. Jyotirmayee Mohanty, of Titira, a village in Odisha has been honored with the IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry)  2023 Distinguished Women in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. Mohanty, who works as a scientist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai, is the first woman in India to receive this prestigious award. The International Day of Women and Girls in Science was celebrated on February 11, and as part of the celebrations, IUPAC announced the 12 awardees for their exceptional contributions to the chemical sciences. They were selected based on their excellence in basic or applied research, distinguished accomplishments in teaching or education, or demonstrated leadership or managerial excellence in the chemical sciences. The news of Mohanty's achievement has brought joy not only to her family but also to the entire village of Titira. BJP National Vice President Baijayant Jay Panda congratulated Mohanty for her outstanding work and for becoming the first Indian to be felicitated with the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry Award 2023. This is not the first time Mohanty has been recognized for her work. She is the first woman to receive a fellowship in Science and Engineering Research Board, and last year, she received a fellowship from the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), an award conferred by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) in the United Kingdom. Wild Animal in the Jungle: How One Man Pushed His Limits to Achieve the Impossible

In a remarkable feat of endurance and resilience, Indian marathon runner Sukant Suki recently completed one of the world's toughest marathons - the Delirious W.E.S.T trail in Western Australia. Suki ran for a staggering 102 hours and 27 minutes to cover the grueling 350 km trail, which took place from 8-12 February 2023. Suki shared his experience in a video uploaded on his YouTube channel, where he spoke about the challenges he faced during his run and how he had prepared for the marathon. He also revealed that the Delirious WEST marathon was his second attempt after being disqualified at 204 km in 2020. Starting from Northcliffe to Albany, the Delirious WEST run is renowned as one of the toughest marathons in the world. Suki said that he underwent intense training for six months and that helped him push through the challenges of the deadly jungle trail. Though he was one of the last four runners to complete the challenge, Suki was immensely proud of his achievement and he feels that nothing is impossible. Suki stated that during the marathon he experienced moments that he would never forget. He said that the trials we face in life help us discover meaning and purpose, and that life is like an ultramarathon consisting of ups and downs. Without sufficient sleep or food, he ran like a wild beast for four days, and he felt tremendous joy in his accomplishment. Suki has also authored two books, "Limitless Humans: How Running Helped Me Live A Meaningful Life" and "Chasing Genius: Inside the Mind of an Ultramarathoner." These books document his unique and challenging journey as an ultra-marathon runner, including the lessons he learned from his disqualification at the Delirious WEST challenge in 2020. Sukant Suki's accomplishment is an inspiration to runners and non-runners alike. Indian athlete Avinash Sable has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian man to qualify for the 3000m steeplechase final at the Paris Olympics on August 5, 2024. Sable's time of 8:15.43, which he set in heat 2 of round 1, placed him sixth in the competition.  Presently rated 15th in the world, Avinash Sable came in last behind Mohamed Tindouft, who set a personal best time of 8:10.62 in the event; Samuel Firewu of Ethiopia, Abraham Kibiwot of Kenya, and Ryuji Miura of Japan, who is ranked 4th in the world. The 29-year-old Indian got off to a strong start to the race with an intriguing approach. His lead grew until he was almost at the 1000-meter mark. Soon later, Abraham and Samuel passed him by.Hardships Tackled With Faith ~ Born on September 13, 1994, in Mandwa, Maharashtra, Sable's early life was shaped by modest beginnings in a rural area with limited access to sports facilities. The outstanding performances of the Indian teams are a testament to their exceptional abilities and the rigorous training provided by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, TIFR, an aided Institute of DAE,” Department of Atomic Energy, India said in a post, while congratulating the students.This year’s Indian team was led by two leaders from India — Prof Arun V Kulkarni (Professor, BITS Pilani, Goa), Dr Shirish Pathare (HBCSE, TIFR). Know Which State Claims the Throne in Matters of Food Safety

In a remarkable feat, Kerala has emerged as the undisputed leader in food safety, securing the top spot in the fifth State Food Safety Index. The announcement was made by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, on the occasion of World Food Safety Day. The State Food Safety Index evaluates the performance of states and union territories on six key aspects of food safety. Among the larger states, Kerala claimed the prestigious first position, closely followed by Punjab and Tamil Nadu. In the category of smaller states, Goa took the lead, with Manipur and Sikkim following suit. Notably, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, and Chandigarh excelled among the union territories, securing the top three ranks. Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his delight on Twitter, hailing this achievement as historic. He attributed the success to the implementation of initiatives such as the food safety grama panchayat scheme in 140 panchayats and the Safe and Nutritious Food at School project in 500 schools. Furthermore, the state conducted numerous food safety awareness classes for the general public, contributing to this milestone. State Health Minister Veena George highlighted that Kerala's food safety department also witnessed a significant increase in revenue during the 2022-23 financial year, doubling compared to the previous year. Dr Mandaviya further announced ambitious plans to train 2.5 million food business operators in the next three years, ensuring adherence to food quality standards across the nation. Additionally, he revealed the establishment of 100 Food Streets nationwide, where impeccable food safety, hygiene, and nutrition standards will be maintained.  Emphasizing the vital connection between food quality and overall wellness, Dr Mandaviya highlighted the significance of maintaining high food safety standards.

As the curtains close on her illustrious career, Sania Mirza’s legacy will continue to inspire and motivate generations of women athletes in India and around the world. The 36-year-old tennis star had overcome countless challenges to become one of the greatest woman athletes in post-liberalization India. Despite facing systemic barriers and societal constraints, Sania never shied away from challenging the established order. Her t-shirt slogans that read “Well-behaved women rarely make history” and “You can either agree with me or be wrong” became a symbol of her resilience and determination. Sania’s achievements on the tennis court speak for themselves. She dominated women’s tennis for two decades, becoming one of the first women’s World No 1s and winning numerous doubles titles, including Year-end Finals titles with Martina Hingis. Her record of being World No 1 for 91 consecutive weeks remains unmatched by any Indian woman across disciplines. Sania's impact on Indian tennis and women's sports, in general, is immense despite the fact that she did not receive an Olympic medal. She intends to use her knowledge and abilities to educate and coach young female athletes in India as she sets off on a new journey. Sania's retirement affects the entire sporting community and not just Indian tennis. Her influence extends beyond the court and acts as a motivational example of how everything is possible with perseverance, hard work, and drive. Jessica Wade, a physicist at Imperial College London, is not content with just working in a male-dominated laboratory. In her mission to promote gender equality in science, she spends her evenings writing biographies on Wikipedia about women researchers who have been overlooked. She believes that celebrating and honoring the achievements of women scientists is a crucial step towards encouraging more women to pursue careers in science. As a physicist, Wade is involved in developing carbon-based semiconductors for energy-efficient devices. However, she is disheartened by the lack of diversity in her field. Wade realizes that the underrepresentation of women in science not only affects the opportunities available but also impacts the questions asked, the directions taken, and the societal benefits derived from scientific innovations. Recognizing Wikipedia's wide reach as a platform for disseminating knowledge, Wade embarked on a personal mission to address the gender gap on the platform. Since 2018, she has written nearly 2,000 biographies, dedicating one hour each night to this effort. Her goal is to ensure that the online world recognizes the contributions of women scientists. Wade's contributions have had a profound impact. She shed light on the oceanographic research of climatologist Kim Cobb and celebrated the achievements of mathematician Gladys West, whose calculations led to the development of GPS. Through her work, Wade emphasizes the importance of acknowledgement and representation, helping these women gain recognition and inspiring others in the process. Wade is now part of a network of women editors and conducts workshops to empower others to contribute. Wade's dedication and determination highlight the power of individual efforts to address gender disparities in science and pave the way for a more inclusive future.
