Indian Women's Visually Challenged Cricket Team Clinches Gold at IBSA World Games

In a historic triumph, the visually challenged Indian women's cricket team secured a remarkable gold medal victory against Australia at the IBSA World Games. The thrilling finale took place in Birmingham, where India displayed exceptional skill and determination to emerge victorious. Australia batted first and managed to score 114 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs. With a revised target of 42 runs due to rain interruption, Team India showcased their prowess by chasing down the target in a mere 3.3 overs, securing a resounding nine-wicket win. This momentous achievement holds special significance as it marked the debut of visually challenged cricket in the International Blind Sports Federation World Games. The Indian team's stellar performance in the tournament's first-ever final showcased their talent, resilience, and indomitable spirit. Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the team's exceptional achievement, expressing his congratulations and stating that the nation beams with pride at their success. Indian men’s and women’s throwball teams bring glory to country

At the World Games held in Kathmandu, the women's team trounced their arch-rivals Pakistan 15-13, 15-12 to win the gold medal. It was a nail-biting final, but the determined Indian women’s team managed to clinch the title. The men also posted a similar score of 15-13, 15-12 against their opponents, Bangladesh to defeat them and win the title. The event took place from June 15 to 18 in Kathmandu in Nepal. The Indian teams emerged victorious although they had participated in the Games for the first time. The World Games was organized by the International Sports Council (Canada). 11 countries participated in the Games competing in 42 different categories. Naresh Mann, the general secretary of the Throwball Federation of India congratulated both the teams. In the semifinals, Indian men's team had earlier vanquished Malaysia 15-9, 15-10 and the women's side defeated Malaysia 15-10, 15-11. Mann said that the players had worked hard to win a medal in the World Games and he hoped that they would continue to bring laurels for the country.
