What an Innovative Way To Spread the Message of Fraternity and Peace!

A masjid darshan or a mosque tour was organized by Masjid-e-Bilal, a mosque in Bengaluru last month for visitors across all religions. The response was very encouraging as over 2,000 people gathered at the mosque between 4 pm and 8 pm.  During the four-hour session, mosque tour guides took the guests on a tour of the mosque. The event was the brainchild of members of Muhammad for Mankind, a student and youth organisation and its aim was to spread a message of fraternity among people. Tauseef Ahmed, one of the organisers said that people have preconceived notions about institutions such as mosques and madrasas, owing to what they come across in popular media. This event comprised a Q&A session to clear any such doubts. A prayer session was also organized where people got an opportunity to watch live prayers and know more about the religion. He added that the show featured artefacts like antique cameras and ancient medical instruments, as well as conversations about Islam's contributions to the world, including mathematics and coffee. Although organizing such programmes require a lot of effort and planning including seeking permission and authorisation from Jumma Masjid Trust Board, Ahmed said that they are all very eager to host such programmes again.

This Village in Kerala Sets an Excellent Example of Communal Harmony

While the country celebrated Milad-un-Nabi on Sunday, a Muslim community in Kerala decided to defer the celebrations for the sake of the smooth conduct of the wedding of a Hindu girl in the vicinity of the mosque. The Idivetti Juma Masjid at Peramabra in Kozhikode, Kerala sent a beautiful message to the society when the mosque’s office bearers decided to postpone their celebrations when they came to know about the marriage of Pratyusha, a Hindu girl staying close to the mosque. Celebrations and Revelry Speaking to Deccan Herald, the mahal committee secretary N C Abdurahman said that Milad-un –Nabi celebrations would entail the use of loudspeakers. The celebrations of the mosque would be held from 10 am and last till 10 pm. Food is also served to a large number of people who participate in the celebrations. He said that these activities could cause inconvenience for the marriage of the girl in the neighbourhood. It was a unanimous decision to put off the celebrations by a week. Couple Expresses Gratitude Pratyusha, daughter of late Narayanan Nambiar and Indira, expressed her gratitude to the mosque authorities. She personally went to the mosque along with her husband Vinu Prasad and thanked the authorities soon after the marriage. It is more heartening to know that the committee members of the mosque also actively participated in Pratyusha’s marriage. Such thoughtful and sensible acts by our citizens fill our hearts with pride for our country which is home to people of different religions and cultures who live amicably with a sense of belonging and brotherhood. For Ramzan, villagers unite to build a mosque for Muslim brethren

  The Muslim residents of  Ghalib Ran Singh Waal, a village in Ludhiana will no longer have to travel to nearby villages to offer 'namaz'. Setting a good example of communal harmony, the villagers which have a majority of Sikh and Hindu residents have built a mosque for their Muslim brethren. It has been an ideal gift to the Muslim community ahead of the holy month of Ramzan. Stating that it is a beautiful mosque,  Liaqat Ali, a local villager, said that it had been their long cherished demand which has been fulfilled by the efforts of the villagers. The mosque has been named Hazrat Abu Bakar mosque. The Muslim community appreciated the kind gesture and said that it was indeed an Eid gift to them. They are happy about the fact that they can pray and offer namaz in their own village in the Hazrat Abu Bakar mosque instead of going to nearby villages to offer prayers. Village sarpanch Jagdeep Kaur said that it was resolved to construct a mosque way back in 1998. Even a  kanal of panchayat land was allotted for the construction. But work could begin only in May last year with the efforts of the villagers. Now, with the joint efforts of villagers, a temple is also being constructed. Jagdeep Kaur is very proud of her village and describes it as an epitome of communal harmony.
