While the country celebrated Milad-un-Nabi on Sunday, a Muslim community in Kerala decided to defer the celebrations for the sake of the smooth conduct of the wedding of a Hindu girl in the vicinity of the mosque.

The Idivetti Juma Masjid at Peramabra in Kozhikode, Kerala sent a beautiful message to the society when the mosque’s office bearers decided to postpone their celebrations when they came to know about the marriage of Pratyusha, a Hindu girl staying close to the mosque.

Celebrations and Revelry

Speaking to Deccan Herald, the mahal committee secretary N C Abdurahman said that Milad-un –Nabi celebrations would entail the use of loudspeakers. The celebrations of the mosque would be held from 10 am and last till 10 pm. Food is also served to a large number of people who participate in the celebrations. He said that these activities could cause inconvenience for the marriage of the girl in the neighbourhood. It was a unanimous decision to put off the celebrations by a week.

Couple Expresses Gratitude

Pratyusha, daughter of late Narayanan Nambiar and Indira, expressed her gratitude to the mosque authorities. She personally went to the mosque along with her husband Vinu Prasad and thanked the authorities soon after the marriage. It is more heartening to know that the committee members of the mosque also actively participated in Pratyusha’s marriage.

Such thoughtful and sensible acts by our citizens fill our hearts with pride for our country which is home to people of different religions and cultures who live amicably with a sense of belonging and brotherhood.
