Mere Observation Can Do Miracle

Though I am modern in my outlook, I have very high norms regarding how men should behave with women. There are very few men who impress me. I picked up my son from school and reached home. As we opened the lift, a lady was getting out. He being small rushed in before she could move out. I held the door and waited until she was out. Then I went in and closed the door. In the lift, I told him that he is a big boy now and he should know that he has to wait till the persons in the lift alight. Also when girls and ladies are there in the lift he should open the door and wait for them to get in and out. He listened intently. My neighbour was waiting for the lift and when we reached our floor, he opened the lift for us. Also unlike before, my little young man waited patiently for me to move out and then came out after me. My neighbour also noticed his gesture and smiled. I thanked him and we got in the house. On reaching home I hugged n kissed my son and told him that I noticed his kind deed and I felt very special. As he became a teenager and then a young man, he would treat me royally, open the car door and also hold me protectively when we were out. I love him for being a gentleman. Also by mere observation of his dad, he learnt how to speak and behave when women are around and it's the most beautiful thing of his personality. I am so proud of my young boy Men rarely understand a woman's emotions and if they do they do not give much thought to it. I always felt this should not be the case. I spoke about it to my lad ever since he was a teenager and he not only understands me but knows where to draw the line from being caring to being stern and this I think makes a man perfectly balanced. Bring up your young gentlemen by teaching them these little things that will make them distinct and respectful. It is much needed in today's world because equality of gender is as important as being treated with respect by the opposite gender. Begin young because the results are amazing....

Vyommitra: Simulating Human Functions in Space Vyommitra, the robot astronaut, has been developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to simulate human functions in space. A Friend in Space The name 'Vyommitra' is derived from two Sanskrit words: "Vyoma," meaning space, and "Mitra," meaning friend. Functions and Interactions Vyommitra's functionalities are diverse and vital for the success of the mission. The Path to Gaganyaan Before the manned mission, ISRO has planned an uncrewed mission called Vyommitra, scheduled for the third quarter of this year. Preparing for Launch The Gaganyaan project aims to demonstrate India's human space capabilities by sending a crew of astronauts into an orbit of 400 kilometers and safely returning them to Earth. In preparation for this ambitious endeavor, ISRO successfully completed the Test Vehicle Flight TV D1 on October 21 last year. This test validated the crew escape system, parachute system, and human rating of the launch vehicle. Changing Lives Through Sports: A Tale of Inclusivity and Sportsmanship

It was in 2019 that the Toofaan Games story started, as the then-head of Nanhi Kali operations, Rohini Mukherjee, decided it was time to introduce sports to the girls. "Classrooms cannot teach you certain fundamental life skills, such as leadership, teamwork, and facing failure," the speaker stated. Sports entered the picture at this point. Approximately 1,90,000 girls who sign up for this program receive at least ten years of education, as well as an introduction to sports. These days the Toofaan Games are a yearly sporting event with four competitions. The girls under their tutelage are participating in the current edition, which began in August 2023, almost from the village level to the nationals, which are organized by the trust.Together, Lisa Murawsky and Rohini (who is currently the Head of Global Partnerships and Strategy) developed the foundation's "Sports for Life" initiative, which gave rise to these games. It is important to note that women are in complete control of the initiative—from coaching to outcomes. "It doesn't matter if they are good or bad at the sport; every girl learns to include everyone else," Rohini says.Overseeing the program in the Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh, Poornima Singh collaborates with 271 sports allies and 7,856 girls. She found that the girls' desire to participate in sports was self-existent. She states, "They are ready to go to the playground and play 24 hours a day." Passionate Souls Coming Together for Making Sports Work for Women: The program's overarching goal will always be 'Sports for all,' prioritizing the participation and lifelong engagement of girls and women in sports, rather than solely promoting sporting excellence.

This Woman Cop Went Beyond the Call of Duty to Feed Hungry Children

A woman cop in Odisha has softened the image of strict and ruthless police officials and set an example for others by her care and compassion proffered to four young, hungry, underprivileged children in Odisha’s Angul district. Angul Police Station IIC Smrutiprabha Pradhan came to know about the unfortunate condition of the four children from her sources. The children belong to Kusumita village in Baradapal panchayat. It was hard to make ends meet, so the children’s father migrated to Surat to earn a living and is working as a labourer there. The kids’ mother deserted them and eloped with another man. The responsibility of looking after the kids fell on the grandfather. It is the poor grandfather who works hard and takes care of the children, but sometimes he fails to earn and the siblings go to bed hungry. The woman cop was overcome with motherly love and compassion on hearing about the family’s plight. She visited the children and offered them food. The children stared at her but happily ate all the food. At that moment, she was no less than a mother to them. While people have a sense of fear and for police officials, this extraordinary act of the woman cop commands respect and praise.

The Girl Who Dared to Dream Big Becomes the First Woman Pilot From a Tribal Region

Anupriya Lakra always nurtured a dream of reaching the skies. She wanted to become a pilot, but given the place to which she belonged, where even proper roads were a distant reality, it is admirable that Anupriya could achieve her dream. Anupriya hailed from Odisha's Maoist-hit Malkangiri district. She worked really hard for seven years to become the first female pilot from the backward region. Soon, Anupriya will join a private airline as a co-pilot to become the first female pilot from a tribal-dominated district. Her parents, Mariniyas Lakra, a Havildar in Odisha Police and Jamaj Yashmin Lakra, a homemaker also deserve praise for the wholehearted support they rendered to her daughter and being with her through all hardships. Anupriya completed her higher studies in Malkangiri and left for Bhubaneshwar to pursue engineering. However, the passion to become a pilot was so strong that she quit engineering to prepare for the pilot entrance test in Bhubaneshwar and later, she joined the Pilot Training Institute in Bhubaneswar and successfully completed her studies and training. Anupriya’s proud father said that she has joined a private airline and will soon fly abroad. Anupriya was applauded by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who congratulated her for the rare feat achieved through dedication and grit and said it will set an example for others to emulate. In a dramatic turn of events, P V Sindhu who had lost to Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in the final of badminton world championship two years ago avenged the heart-wrenching defeat with a dominating win over the same opponent in the BWF world championship on Sunday. It was a lopsided summit clash as P V Sindhu who is also an Olympic silver medalist trounced Nozomi Okhuhara 21-7 21-7 to win the final which lasted only 38 minutes. Highest Medal Winner With this win, Sindhu became the highest medal winner in the World Championship along with Zhang Ning of China who has won an identical 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze. The win has put the 24-year-old shuttler from India in the league of the greatest ever women's singles players in the event's history. Other Indian Winners The first-ever Indian to win a medal in World Championships is Prakash Padukone with a men's singles bronze in 1983. In women's singles, Saina Nehwal claimed a silver and a bronze in 2015 and 2017. In 2011, Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa bagged a bronze in women's doubles. The latest to join the club is B Sai Praneeth as he won a bronze in the men's singles on Saturday. Radhika Rao Passionately Through Her Lens Captures Smiling India While Riding on Her Solo Motorcycle

Radhika Rao, a 26-year-old freelance photographer based in Chennai has been on a solo ride across India since April 9. She has completed 22,500 kilometres on her bike as part of her solo motorcycle ride across the country. Starting from the North, she has traversed East, West and Central India and is now in Kozhikode on her way from Bangalore to Thiruvanathapuram. Radhika said that it was her dream to cover all 29 state capitals and 9 union territories and experience the divergent culture. She was very keen to interact with people and understand the customs and traditions of different regions. Her motivation came from her passion for photography. This passion transformed her from a fragile and underweight girl to a fit and confident rider. Rao said that initially she was dissuaded from making the trip. She was made aware of all her shortcomings including her fitness as well as the challenges of travelling alone. She was not the one to be discouraged and took all the suggestions positively.She improved her body weight from 44 kg to 53 kg to handle the bike and luggage easily as part of preparations for the ride. Rao believes that there is nothing that a confident girl cannot achieve. She attended a local workshop where she learned the basics of mechanics. She also took lessons in boxing for self-defense. All through her trip, she has captured photographs of people, their smiles, customs and traditions. It will take 20 days before she could wind up her ride in Chennai. After that, she plans to organize a photo exhibition of the pictures taken during the ride. Radhika says, “Language or boundaries never created barriers for me. A true heart is what a person requires to interact with the people of this country.”

BSF gets its first woman combat officer

Image for Representation purpose Only Rajasthan's Bikaner city was on Sunday all prepared to give a rousing welcome to its resident Tanushree Pareek who became the first woman combat officer to be commissioned by the Border Security Force(BSF) It was for the first time in its 51 year history that a woman combat officer was inducted in the BSF. Pareek was taken around the city in a procession in an open jeep from her alma matter Lady Elgin School. During the procession, hundreds of people took to the streets to cheer her and felicitate her with garlands and bouquets. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the passing out parade of 67 trainee officers at the BSF camp in Gwalior. When Pareek (25) was informed just 15 days in advance that she was chosen to lead the parade, she was very excited and prepared for the parade with double zeal. She said that now it was time for girls to actively participate in tough tasks. During the piping ceremony, the Union Home Minister himself put the rank stars on the shoulders of Pareek. Pareek was given a 52-week training in battle craft, intelligence gathering and other border guarding tasks and received three awards for her outstanding achievements in drill, all round best trainee, and public speaking. She will be posted to command a unit of the 105th Battalion along the Indo-Pak border in Firojpur in Punjab.

How a Young Traffic Cop Rescued a Cardiac Patient From the Clutches of Death on a Busy Gwalior Road

As Anil Upadhyaya, a 61-year-old retired employee of an electrical distribution business lay unconscious on one of the busiest road crossings in Gwalior, people instead of providing assistance, were filming him. A boy came running and intimated this incident to Subedar Sonam Parashar, a young woman traffic police, who was on duty nearby. She rushed to the spot and sprung into action. She first summoned the police emergency vehicle to ensure timely medical help. Then she started administering CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) procedure that revived the elderly man and brought him back to consciousness. On the way to the hospital, Sonam kept talking to him so that he didn’t drift into a state of unconsciousness once again. Her timely help saved Upadhyaya’s life. Sonam, who is also a mother to a three-year-old son had conducted demos of CPR in Gwalior schools, but she said this was the first time she used this life-saving art practically to save a life in a real-life situation in a crowded public place. Sonam has been showered with accolades from the family of the elderly man whose life she saved to CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan after the video of the woman traffic cop doing prompt CPR on him went viral. The incident underlines the necessity of every responsible citizen to know the basic knowledge of giving CPR to save a life.

Ritu Karidhal’s Curiosity About the Sky Leads Her to the Moon

As a young girl. Ritu Karidhal would always gaze at the night sky for hours wondering what lies beyond the dark space. She would wonder why the moon changes its shape and was curious about everything in outer space. Her preoccupation with space led her to collect newspaper cuttings about any space-related activity and she was also aware of the activities of ISRO and NASA. It is no wonder then, that Ritu pursued a three-year M.E. degree in Aerospace Engineering from Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and joined ISRO in 1997. From then on the sky was the limit for this extremely dedicated and professional woman. Mangalyan (Mars Orbiter Mission) Mangalyan is one of the greatest achievements of ISRO making India only the fourth country in the world to reach Mars. It was completed in just 10 months time and at a remarkably low cost of Rs 450 crores only. Ritu, who was the Deputy Operations Director of this mission played a key role in the detailing and the execution of the craft's onward autonomy system which operated the satellite's functions independently in space and responded appropriately to malfunctions. Chandrayaan 2 After the success of Chandrayaan 1 in 2008 where a lunar orbiter was launched successfully, India is waiting for Chandrayaan 2 to soft-land the lander -Vikram and rover- Pragyan on September 7. It was launched successfully last month and entered the moon’s orbit on August 20. Ritu is the mission director of Chandrayaan 2. It is such a proud moment for all Indians that a woman scientist is heading this mission on which the whole world has its eyes on. Ritu has the unending support of her husband and two children which helps her to pursue her profession with total involvement. After her parents’ demise, she looked after her younger siblings like a mother. One can’t help but admire how she strikes a perfect balance between her personal life and professional life. However, she faced opposition from her family who after providing her with education wanted to marry her off for which the rebellious girl was not ready. Dawre left her town in Parbhani and came to Mumbai where she initially struggled, but later triumphed to become the first woman auto-rickshaw driver in India that too, way back in 1988! She has also got recognition in the Limca Book of World Records as India’s first woman autorickshaw driver. Now she has started her own travel company and is associated with autowale.in. Pakistan sets up unique helpline for the aid of suppressed and needy women

Pakistan set up a hotline for women in need in the province of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa which is not very far from the border with neighbouring Afghanistan. It began on March 1st and is a small operation with two operators, Hassan and Mehran Akbar. These two operators take information from affected women and pass it on to Shandana Naeem, a lawyer, who follows up with advice and a network of free legal services. So far, on an average they get one call per day. They keep a careful log of all their calls. The calls are not only from the provincial capital of Peshawar, but also from more remote regions. The log book is carefully kept. It records names, dates, phone numbers and their stories. Some calls pertained to domestic violence and Naeem realized that they needed to engage local health clinics and develop a network that would be willing to offer free health care, similar to their legal service network. Most of the calls were related to property disputes where women were denied their right of inheritance. Meraj Humayun Khan, a 70-year-old parliamentarian took the initiative to start this helpline. With the help of her male colleagues, she organized a woman's caucus in the provincial parliament and lobbied for the direct helpline to the legislature.

US body announces scholarship programme for Indian woman

The Institute of International Education (IIE) along with investment banking Goldman Sachs has announced a scholarship programme for Indian woman in the field of computer science, engineering and other technology. This initiative will see 25 Indian women receive a $ 1,500 scholarship under the ‘WeTech Goldman Sachs Scholars’. Goldman Sachs will also provide them with a mentor for a six month mentorship programme from June to December 2017. The IIE website will accept applications from second and third year undergraduate students from March 30 to May 15, 2017 and winners of the scholarship will be announced in June 2017. Shubha Iyer, managing director in the Technology division at Goldman Sachs in Bengaluru said that engaging women at various stages from their academic years to a career is a critical step in addressing the gender gap that is often seen in the technology industry. Allan Goodman, IIE president and CEO said that this initiative has been taken as the world needs more women who are educated and trained to entering into STEM careers and work with peers across many different countries and cultures. The Institute is interested in promoting ICT( Information and Communication Technologies) education among young Indian women by expanding their opportunities, broadening their network and building their leadership skills. The topics covered by the students and mentors include career planning, interview skills and professional networking.
