Karnataka Government Grants Unconditional Free Bus Rides for Women

In a groundbreaking move, the Karnataka government has announced that all women in the state will be eligible for free bus travel, without any conditions or restrictions. Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy clarified this exciting development during a press briefing, following a meeting with the four transport corporation chiefs.  This decision comes as a fulfillment of one of the key promises made by the Congress party in their election manifesto. With pressure mounting to deliver on their commitments, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) staff and workers federation recently urged the Chief Minister to implement the scheme promptly.  The scheme, which aims to empower women and facilitate their mobility, will extend to all government-run buses across the state. This inclusive approach, devoid of any categorization or eligibility criteria, aims to ensure that every woman has the opportunity to benefit from the free bus rides. As preparations continue, a report on the expenses of this transformative scheme will be submitted to the Chief Minister. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who had previously demonstrated his commitment to the initiative by personally traveling on a local bus, has assured the public that the scheme will be promptly implemented once the party assumes power.
