Kalaburagi’s Chandrashekhar Shilpi Wins 2024 National Handicraft Award for Masterful Wooden Carvings
In a proud moment for Karnataka and Indian handicrafts, Chandrashekhar Y. Shilpi, a senior artist and traditional carving expert from Kalaburagi, has been selected for the National Handicraft Award 2024, conferred by the Union Ministry of Textiles. Known for his intricate carvings and dedication to preserving the region’s artistic heritage, Mr. Shilpi has earned this national recognition for his exquisitely carved Dwarabagilu, a decorative wooden doorway that showcases rare mastery in traditional art. The award ceremony is scheduled for December 9, 2025, at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu will personally present the honor.
