Kannur University Extends Helping Hand to Manipur Students Amidst Violence
In a heartwarming gesture, Kannur University in Kerala has come forward to support students from Manipur whose education has been disrupted by the ongoing violence in their home state. The university has opened its doors to 70 students who had to flee from the violence, allowing them to join various degree courses. Moreover, the university is also planning to assist students who had to discontinue their studies midway due to the turmoil. The first batch of 13 students has already arrived in Kerala, eager to begin a new chapter in their lives. Despite the differences in food and surroundings, these students feel a sense of familiarity and are grateful for the warm reception they have received. Kannur University has taken a compassionate approach by not demanding qualification certificates or other documents from the students who have been forced to leave their homes. Their sole aim is to provide a helping hand to these students during this challenging time. Vice Chancellor Gopinath Ravindran assured that while the university is not currently checking certificates, they will communicate with the students' universities in Manipur to obtain the necessary documents before granting them degree certificates from Kannur University. The students will be admitted to different colleges within the university, with preference given to colleges that have residential campuses and hostels. The state of Manipur has recently experienced a surge in inter-tribal violence, resulting in the displacement of tens of thousands of people and numerous casualties. The conflict stems from historical colonial policies that accentuated differences among the Meitei, Naga, and Kuki tribes. Kannur University's initiative to provide education and support to Manipuri students reflects the spirit of solidarity and compassion, offering a lifeline to those affected by the violence.
