Iconic War Museum opens in Dharamshala
Ahead of the 70th Independence Day Celebrations, the hill town of Dharamshala which is already famous for its cricket stadium and the Tibetian community residing there will get one more feature –A War Museum.
The museum which has come up at a cost of Rs 10 crores was inaugurated by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. He also laid the foundation stone of Freedom Fighters Memorial on Wednesday. Addressing the people of the State he said that he salutes the great heroes of freedom struggle and all those brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the sake of the Nation.
He said that the War Museum was a reminder of the sacrifices of the valiant soldiers of Himachal Pradesh. The Museum would acquaint visitors with the Nations first Param Vir Chakra recipient, the highest gallantry awardee, Major Somnath Sharma, late Captain Bikram Batra, Saurabh Kalia, and others who laid their lives for the sake of the Nation.
He also expressed his gratitude to the families of the valiant soldiers who had become martyrs.
He said that 52 brave soldiers from Himachal who died in the Kargil war will find mention in this War Museum so that generations to come will know about their valour.
The museum is spread over a total area of 2190 square metre with its outer walls displaying murals of heroic deeds. There is also Ashoka Pillar of dimension 5x2 feet, a Pakistan flag captured, regimental flags and Medium Machine Guns.
