V Anand in Chess World Cup 2017
Former World Champion Viswanathan Anand along with six more players will be representing India in the Chess World Cup. Chess World Cup 2017 will be held from September 2 to 27 in Tbilisi, Georgia. The list of players also includes Pentala Harikrishna who is a chess Grandmaster. The world cup will be conducted in a knockout fashion. There is a total of 128 contestants participating. The last two players who will get qualified for the finals of this tournament will get direct entry into the Candidates tournament for the World Chess Championship in 2018! Based on their rating, Anand and Harikrishna got qualified for the tournament. S P Sethuraman and Deep Sengupta got entry based on their performances in continental championship 2016. Other three Indian players in the tournament are Karthikeyan Murali, Vidit Gujrathi and Baskaran Adhiban. FIDE, the World Chess Federation made announcements of the list of participants. As per the draw, in the opener, Anand would be against Malaysian No. 1 International Master Yeoh Li Tian while Harikrishna would be against Cuban GM Gonzalez Yuri Vidal. All the players participating in the tournament are grandmasters in chess! The tournament would be very interesting!
