School students to get Aadhaar Card in UP
In a bid to ensure better transparency and to increase overall efficiency to keep a track on fake registeration, Uttar Pradesh government will give all its school students Aadhaar Card. All the government schools students in Uttar Pradesh from class I to VIII will get Aadhaar cards. There are 1.78 crore students enrolled in 1.68 lakh school therefore to keep a record of all these students and its authentic documents, Aadhaar card will be issued to them. The government also mentioned that teacher’s salary will also be linked to Aadhaar card now. As per the report published in The Times of India, officials said they had been given an ultimatum by the basic education minister (independent charge) Anupama Jaiswal to hold camps in schools and ensure each student has an Aadhaar number by July end. Various agencies involved in the process for government schoolchildren are already coordinating with each other, and soon camps will be held in government schools. Once issued, the Aadhar card will be the students' identification document. It will also be required by students for receiving benefits under various school-related schemes. Union ministry of human resource development had earlier issued instructions where students across the country will get mid-day meals on sharing their unique ID number. "It will be a game-changer for the basic education department of UP and the card will bring transparency to nomination of children in schools,'' said joint director, basic education, Lalita Pradeep. With the help of Aadhaar card, schools can also know at which point the student drops out. and its progress will also be tracked.
