Meet Sushil Kumar, the Railway Engineer Turned Champion Teacher Transforming Lives in Delhi

Sushil Kumar, a railway engineer, embarked on a remarkable journey to transform the lives of underprivileged children in Delhi. Witnessing young children loitering due to their parents' inability to afford school sparked a determination to make a difference. In the early 2000s, his family moved from a village in Rajasthan to Delhi. That was when he noticed the glaring disparities in access to education. In 2009, while preparing for competitive exams, Sushil Kumar attended coaching classes and observed many bright minds who couldn’t afford the class. After successfully clearing his exams and returning from training in 2013, he initiated a free-of-cost coaching class alongside his job, aiming to empower these students. What started with Sushil Kumar's three-hour classes soon blossomed into a community of 300 eager learners. He sought to enroll them in mainstream schools, but didn’t meet with success due to bureaucratic hurdles. Undaunted, he transformed the coaching class into a primary education hub and established the Nirbhed Foundation in 2015. Nirbhed Foundation's mission is simple yet powerful: to uplift neglected children. Despite minimal external support, they follow a holistic approach, offering basic education, arts, crafts, yoga, martial arts, and medical camps. They empower young minds, ensuring they receive a safe and nurturing environment. With his relentless commitment to provide education to the poverty-stricken and neglected children of the society, Sushil Kumar proves that one change lives through education and compassion.We salute such teachers for their unwavering dedication.

Mini Maestro: Babar Ali, The World's Youngest Headmaster, Paves the Path to Universal Education

In a remarkable tale of determination and passion, Babar Ali, a teacher from the Murshidabad district in West Bengal, has become the youngest headmaster in the world. At the tender age of nine, driven by his love for teaching, Babar embarked on a journey to provide education to underprivileged children in his community. Today, his incredible work has not only transformed the lives of countless students but has also contributed to increasing the literacy rate in the region. Babar Ali's school, named Anand Shiksha Niketan, started humbly in the courtyard of his home, operating from a simple hut. Motivated by the sight of children his age unable to attend school, he took it upon himself to provide them with an education. His dedication and perseverance have resulted in the establishment of a school that now educates hundreds of poverty-stricken children. Recognized by various national and international agencies, Babar Ali has received numerous awards for his selfless work. He was honored with the Real Heroes award by CNN IBN, the Indian of the Year award by NDTV, and the Literacy Hero Award by Rotary India Literacy Mission, among others. His inspiring story has even been included in the coursebooks of different state and central education boards. Anand Shiksha Niketan, a school for joyful learning, not only provides tuition-free education but also offers free learning kits, uniforms, and basic amenities to its students. Babar Ali's vision and relentless efforts have inspired others to join the cause of making education accessible to all. Babar Ali's unwavering commitment to education serves as an inspiration for everyone, proving that with dedication and a specific goal, great outcomes can be achieved.

Celebrating the Noble Profession of Teachers on Teachers Day

“Teaching is a very noble profession that shapes the character, caliber and future of an individual. If people remember me as a good teacher, that will be the biggest honor for me” These words uttered by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam signify the profound influence that teachers have in our lives. In India, 5 September is celebrated as Teachers Day to acknowledge the immense contribution of teachers towards mankind because, in the process of teaching, they actually shape and mould a child to become responsible and fruitful individuals that go on to build a nation. History of Teachers Day September 5 is the birth anniversary of India’s second President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was also a great philosopher, statesman and a  renowned teacher who believed that teachers should be the best minds in the country. In 1962, when he became the second President of India, his doting students wanted to celebrate his birthday on 5 September as ‘Radhakrishnan’s Day’. However, Dr. Radhakrishnan insisted that the day be celebrated instead as ‘Teachers Day.’ Since then, 5 September is celebrated as Teachers Day throughout India. Teachers Day Celebrations Teachers Day is celebrated with much enthusiasm and fervor in our country. Students begin preparations days in advance to cheer and honour their teachers on this day. Cultural programmes are held in educational institutions where students perform skits, dance and sing for their teachers to make them feel special. Some schools and colleges award their outstanding teachers on this day. Sometimes, teachers are also made to participate in games and other activities hosted by the students while at other times, students themselves get into the shoes of teachers to experience the responsibility of teaching. There is no doubt that teachers have an important and tough job to do as they need to be patient, persuasive, caring and empathetic towards their students so that they are shaped into responsible, productive and successful citizens. Therefore, teachers deserve all due respect and honour for taking up this noble profession and this day gives an opportunity to thank them for their efforts and dedication towards their students.
