Overcoming Unemployment Through Skill Development

The Assam state government had signed a MoU with ITE Education Services of Singapore in January in relation to setting up skill centres. On Tuesday, the ministry of the department of northeastern region (DoNER)  announced that the skill centre will come up at Guwahati. According to DoNER minister, Jitendra Singh the centre will be ready by 2019 and it will start functioning after the ministry conducts discussions with a high-level delegation represented by the high commissioner of Singapore, Lim Thuan Kuan in Delhi. The skill centre will focus on services like beauty and wellness, retail services, hospitality operations and food and beverage services to replicate the skilling model of ITE, Singapore, in Assam. The state government also plans to open up the skilling model of development schools of South Korea for automobile, Japan for electronics and Taiwan for floriculture. The mission aims at empowering the state’s youth with the necessary skills that will enable them to earn their livelihood. It addresses issues of unemployment and poverty while ensuring optimum utilisation of the state's human resource.  The body ensures that by creating skill power and increasing employment, the state will be able to generate productive assets and stimulate the rural economy
