An Oasis in the Sky: This Skyscraper Overflows with 80,000 Plants!

A skyscraper bursting with 80,000 plants has opened its doors in the heart of Singapore, bringing a new level of greenery to the city-state’s central business district.   The Oasia Hotel Downtown, designed by WOHA Architects, has transformed the usual grey concrete high-rise into a living, breathing oasis. The building's unique design features 21 species of plants, including bamboo, shrubs, and flowering climbers, which cover every surface of the building, from the façade to the rooftop.   The greenery not only enhances the building's aesthetics but also improves the surrounding air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere. The plants also provide a natural cooling effect, reducing the need for air conditioning and lowering energy consumption.   The Oasia Hotel Downtown's greenery is not limited to just the exterior. The building's interior features a lush garden courtyard, while each guest room has a balcony adorned with greenery, providing a tranquil and serene living space.   The architects behind the project hope that the building will inspire other cities to incorporate more greenery into their urban landscapes, creating a healthier and more sustainable living environment for residents and visitors alike.   In a city where space is at a premium, the Oasia Hotel Downtown sets a new standard for green architecture and demonstrates that even the most urban environments can be transformed into vibrant, sustainable ecosystems.

A Unique Forest Like Hospital That Promotes the Well Being of Its Occupants, Naturally!

When a request was made to build a hospital which lowers the blood pressure of anyone who enters it, the designers resorted to landscaping a forest-like setting, abundant with local and scented plants. That is how the world-renowned Khoo Teck Puat Hospital came into existence in Singapore which provides a tranquil place of recovery for patients, visitors, and community residents. Ingenious Design Apart from the lush greenery, there are many interesting attributes dedicated to the hospital’s ingenious design. The facility’s spacious rooms and enlarged windows facilitate improved airflow throughout the area which reduces its dependence on mechanical ventilation thus saving untold amounts of money on energy bills. As the theme of the hospital is to induce healing by being in close proximity to nature, the building continually treats staff, patients and visitors to direct access to nature. Other Facilities The hospital’s natural ecosystem provides a conducive environment for butterflies to thrive and their species has been ever-increasing from 3 to 83 at present. The hospital also nurtures a rooftop garden run by volunteers. The garden has 100 species of fruit trees, 50 species of vegetables and 50 species of herbs all of which are served to the patients. It has been proved that the lush greenery acts as a distraction from pain and promote a mental state of recovery for patients. Praneeth wins his first Super Series title at Singapore Open

B Sai Praneeth triumphed at the Singapore Open this year as he earned his first Super Series title defeating his compatriot, K Shrikanth. It was the first time two Indians were playing in the final and the crowds were treated to a thrilling match. Praneeth had won  the Canada Open Grand Prix last year and reached the Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold final this year. The Super Series title had eluded him, but this year he was able to clinch it when he  outmaneuvered Srikanth 17-21, 21-17, 21-12 in the finals of the $350,000 event. After being victorious in the 54 minute clash, an overwhelmed Praneeth said that he was very happy about his win and praised the spectators for their huge support. Both Praneeth and Shrikanth were trainees of the Gopichand academy and knew each other's game very well. Praneeth was able to exploit his opponent's weakness and gave a tough fight to Shrikanth. Although Shrikanth overpowered Praneeth in the first game to take the lead, Praneeth made a fighting comeback to win the second game. In the decider, Praneeth carried the momentum and surged to a 7-3 lead and continued to trouble Srikanth with his array of strokes and better net-play. At break, Praneeth was far ahead with a sore of 11-5. In the end, a drop shot gave Praneeth a 19-12 lead and Srikanth handed him the match point when he hit wide. Praneeth made the most of it to clinch the series. Praneeth, who shot into limelight after winning the bronze medal at the World Junior Championships in 2010, has come a long way winning a number of titles and trouncing many accomplished shuttlers. This Super Series win is another feather in his cap.
