Pleasing The Palate: Senthil Kumar Balu Infuses Unique Flavors To Make Cancer Friendly Desserts
Sometimes compromising on the taste becomes a problem when we try to eat healthy. Thus, nothing can be better than retaining the delectable taste while eating right. Former cancer researcher, Senthil Kumar Balu is not only baking desserts which are gluten friendly but, also disease friendly through his bakery, Wholesome Rhapsody. The 33-year old baker from Chennai bakes almost all sorts of desserts for the cancer patients which are made according to their diet requirement. In order to go forward with the order, he first gets an insight into the patient’s condition and also what kind of medication the person is on. The Mammary Love Brownie is one of his creations which is breast cancer friendly and is low on estrogen level while the Yours Prostate’ly Brownie is for the ones who have prostate cancer. Soy milk, chickpea, Brazil nut, flaxseed, and levulose are some of its ingredients. Right from the combination of jackfruit and blueberry cashew cream to orange marmalade and raspberry coconut, the infusion of flavours is unique and palatable. The ingredients in each dessert vary from each other and while discussing the same, Senthil told Indian Women Blog: “For this lady, I made sure that this brownie has a low estrogen content because in breast cancer most of the times estrogen are overproduced. However, for prostate cancer patients I make brownies with ingredients high in estrogen content such as pistachios and walnuts as the treatment requires them to take in food rich in estrogen.” Cancer treatments may cause changes in appetite owing to which the urge of eating diminishes. Senthil has been doing his best to satisfy their palate through his desserts and we hope he brings a smile to many more faces.
