This Odisha Hospital Sets a Good Example by Employing Transgenders As Security Guards

The Malkangiri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Odisha has taken a significant step to make society more inclusive and to empower the LGBTQIA+ community members by hiring five transgender individuals as security guards. he five transgenders are delighted at this opportunity of working in a hospital and being able to lead an independent life. They are appointed as security guards at gynaecology and paediatric wards of the hospital and are entitled to a remuneration of Rs 6000 to Rs 7000 with insurance and other facilities. The transgenders were appointed under the Nirmal scheme. The Malkangiri District Police trained them before they were absorbed into the hospital. According to a report in Sambad English, there are various schemes under the  Nirmal Yojna which also includes providing jobs to third gender people. One of the security guards names Kailash Dora said that after undergoing training for 15 days, he joined the hospital and was very happy about it. He works in the hospital for eight hours and takes care of patients. This important step under the Nirmal Yojna to employ transgender individuals in the health sector will go a long way in making society inclusive and enabling the third gender community to lead a life of dignity. They say it’s you who can bring changes in your life because nobody else can. Losing hope will never be the solution when the road becomes rocky. And attaining your dreams can be possible if the will power remains strong even after facing the worse storms. The urge of getting educated did not diminish for 32-year-old Ramjal Meena when he couldn’t continue with his studies. In fact, with a desire to learn more, he has now achieved something applaudable. A Dream Come True Moment Ramjal started working as a security guard in the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi from 2014. And today he will be studying at the same institution. He cracked the university’s entrance exam to study Russian. Ramjal is fascinated with Russia hence he chose to learn the language. He also dreams to visit the country someday. The Power of Passion In an interview with India Today, Ramjal said that he appears for various examinations and also carries different books along with him all the time. He makes it a point to study whenever he gets free time. While talking to the portal Ramjal also spoke about why he could not continue studying, as he said: “I was married early so could not study properly. I took a 2-3 years gap during that period.” His determination was so strong that he downloaded study material on his phone to go through them thoroughly. He even keeps a tab on current affairs. Ramjal’s achievement tells us that impossible is nothing; all we have to do is, wait for the right time and keep working towards our dream.
