A gift from the alumni to their junior
We have always heard about the freshers party and giving farewell to our seniors in the college. But in a unique way, the alumni of Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (IIT-GN) are all set to give their junior batch a scholarship. The 2016 batch of IIT-GN has set up an endowment fund to create a scholarship called as Class of 2016 Scholarship’. This scholarship will be an award for the meritorious students in the institute. Around 30 students from115 batch is a part of this endowment fund. The first scholarship has been declared to Danish Mansoor who will receive Rs 2,000 per month for ten consecutive months. Keeping the names of the donors as anonymous, it is one way to do away with the awkwardness of those students from the batch who are not a part of the endowment fund and do not feel left out. As per the report in The Times of India, IIT-Gn Director, Professor Sudhir Jain, said, "It is heartening that our freshly-minted alumni have started to make regular donations to IIT Gandhinagar. More than the donation, I am glad to see the spirit of our alumni, their developing bond with the institute, and look forward to a continued association." Apart from this scholarship, there are around 750 alumni out of which 10 % are regularly donating to the institute for various causes.
