English lessons for underprivileged through radio
Starting from today, Radio City will teach slum children spoken English. Under this unique initiative , Radio City will work with Pune-based Candy sellers to teach underprivileged children basic spoken English. According to the plan, the candy sellers who will have FM receivers with them will attract the kids with candies first. Later they will tune into the radio and the radio jockey will teach the kids spoken English through their show. The first round of this initiative is scheduled to kick start from April 25 between 3 to 4 pm at ZED bridge. The live show on the radio will make sure that children can learn the basics of English language through radio as a medium. The main objective of this venture is to give children of construction workers and labourers and vendors an opportunity to learn English and help them for a better future. Similar initiative was carried out in the year 2016 in Mumbai. The Candy Class 2016 targeted children from Dharavi slum. The classes were held weekly for a month and these classes lasted for 15 minutes. Similar initiative is now being taken in Pune is hopeful that many underprivileged students get to learn at least basic English from this idea.
