This Village Celebrates Newborn Girls in an Amazing Way
The birth of a girl child is looked down open in many places in India even today. That is why the wonderful way in which the residents of Piplantri village in Rajasthan celebrates newborn girls is an important lesson for all. The villagers of Piplantri plant 111 trees whenever a girl child is born in the village. This amazing practice was initiated by former village leader Shyam Sundar Paliwal in memory of his daughter who passed away when she was young. Beautiful Tradition The planting of trees helps to enhance the local environment and ensures sustainability for the future generation. So far, a quarter of a million trees have been planted in Piplantri. The planting of trees has fostered harmony in the village and kindled a renewed adoration for little girls. Speaking to Hindustan Times, Gehrilal Balai who planted 111 trees last year remarked that he experiences great joy in looking after the saplings as much as lulling his little daughter to sleep. Fund For The Girl When a girl is born, villagers of Piplantri get together and raise a sort of ‘trust’. Parents contribute one-third of the sum of Rs 31,000 and the money is set aside as a twenty-year fund for the girl. In return for the trust, parents sign a legal affidavit that the girl will be married only after she completes 18 years and she will be given proper education. The affidavit also mentions that the 111 trees will be taken care of by them. This amazing tradition of planting trees for newborn girls has not only eliminated the stigma around the girl child but also improved the local environment and ecosystem of the village.
