When pets come to us, we begin to arrange for food to feed them. It’s not always food that they want, most of the time they just want to be loved. So next time your pet comes to you, spend time with it by going for a walk, play games or give it a good massage. They will feel very loved and happy. One may feel that it's nice to let the pets sleep all day, but it will actually lead to behavioural problems and can affect their personality. So keep them active by taking your dog out for a while or play with your cats. If your pet dog is getting old, it will need daily supplements to keep it healthy. Try to know about special foods formulated according to their age from your veterinarian. If your pet is lost, don't show worry in your voice while calling out as they won't recognize such a voice. Call out to them calmly. In case the pet is very young, you can attach a metal locket to its collar displaying its name and address. Don't allow your pets to be much attached to you as if you have to go away, they might not be able to deal with the anxiety and stress and may cause destruction. Teach it to stay happily by itself so that it can cope well when you go out. Pets like dogs have a great sense of hearing. Avoid making loud sounds in front of them. During Diwali, don't assume that they will get used to the noise. It only makes them more scared and paranoid. Instead, take them to a familiar room, close all windows and create a little white noise like the fan, television or radio. This will make them feel better as they feel they are in their own safe zone. A subtle change in the behaviour of pets is an indication of sickness. Being listless, loss of appetite, excessive water intake, gaining or losing weight, bumping into things are all warnings that indicate its time to consult the vet. When guests are expected, we tend to tie up our pets. Tying pets up for long periods makes them confused and hurts them. Instead, teach them good behaviour which they would be ready to learn rather than face the stress of being tied up in a place for a long time. You may also build or purchase a spacious kennel so that they have a room of their own. These are a few tips that will go a long way in keeping your pets happy and healthy and help you to enjoy every moment with them.

From Heartbreak to Hope: How One Woman's Loss Inspired a Life-Changing Charity

Have you ever wondered what happens to pets when their elderly owners pass away or move to a retirement home? It's a question that has been on the mind of Angela Rafuse, a 28-year-old woman from Halifax, Nova Scotia, ever since her grandfather passed away, leaving his cat without a home.  Angela took the cat in herself, and soon realized that many seniors face a similar situation. Determined to help, Angela founded a nonprofit organization called ‘My Grandfather’s Cat’ to facilitate adoptions of pets belonging to seniors who are either terminally ill or wishing to enter a retirement home. Since the launch of her charity on her late grandfather’s birthday in May 2021, Angela has celebrated her 100th adoption, bringing peace of mind to many pet owners. The charity has received a lot of attention on social media, with over 656,000 people following Angela and her cat, Mackenzie, on TikTok. Her story is one of grief, compassion, and the determination to make a difference in the lives of seniors and their pets. Adopting a pet through My Grandfather's Cat involves a special procedure. Care facilities or homeless shelters recommend seniors to the organization, who subsequently fill out an application. The group conducts interviews with potential candidates before writing a profile to put on social media. They determine whether candidates are a good fit, and the senior has the chance to interview the family as well. The senior then decides on their pet's second permanent home, and the adoptees can keep in touch with the new owner and offer updates. One case that sticks out in her memory is helping a woman with terminal cancer find a new home for her cats, Koko and Lily. The woman passed away knowing her best friends had the best home. It was the last and most important thing on her to-do list. Angela's story is heartwarming and inspirational. She turned personal loss into a mission to help others and has made a real difference in the lives of both pets and seniors. Her grandfather's cat, Mackenzie, started it all, but Angela's dedication and passion have made 'My Grandfather's Cat' a lifeline for seniors and their furry companions.

A Dog So Environmentally Friendly That It Has Been Dubbed Eco Dog!

A pet dog has become the talk of the town in a town in England as he collects hundreds of plastic bottles during his walks. Locals who like seeing the 13-year-old border collie Scruff take action to protect the environment from plastic pollution have dubbed him "the eco dog." Scruff was adopted from a farm by David Grant and Yvonne Faulkner in 2009. Like many puppies, he loved to play with sticks, but Yvonne discouraged this due to her concern for mouth splinters. He started tinkering with plastic bottles instead. Scruff would carry the plastic bottle in his mouth until he found another one. Then he would drop that and pick the newly found one. Yvonne, who felt it was not appropriate for the dog to litter, started carrying a bag and got Scruff to bring the bottle to her which she then dropped into the bag. It never occurred to the owners earlier but in 2022, they started counting the bottles. Scruff now recovers more than 1,000 plastic bottles following a sluggish beginning in January with only 40. The dog’s act is so adorable that the couple has been using the hashtag #scruffsbottlepatrol to promote their pet's eco-friendly attributes on social media for the past year. They are heartened to see people’s good responses on social media. The couple plan to recycle the bottles every month. Truly, the eco dog shows us the way!

This Young Boy Uses His Talent to Help Homeless Pets

12-year-old Darius Brown is using his creative talent to help shelter pets get homes. He designs and makes beautiful bow ties for pets so that they catch the attention of potential families who come to the shelter for adoption. Darius Brown was only two years old when he was diagnosed with speech delay, comprehension delay and fine motor skills delay. His mother and sister felt the need to encourage creativity in him so that it helped him in his development. Darius began with helping his sister in making hair ribbons for girls. He would prep and cut ribbons and sew fabric together. Gradually he started making bow ties and wearing them. Soon people got interested in his attractive bow ties and enquired whether they could buy one. This prompted Darius to launch Beaux & Paws to make custom bow ties for people and their pets. His growing fondness towards animals led him to donate bow ties to animal shelters. He used the money that he earned from Beaux & Paws to purchase materials for bow ties that he would donate. He also makes a donation of a portion of every sale to the ASPCA. The work of this brilliant and compassionate young boy came to the notice of Barack Obama who wrote a personal letter to Darius. A Teacher’s Funfilled and Innovative Teaching Methods Brought Kids Back to This Government School

There was a time when Sonwa school in Lucknow had very thin attendance. The few students who came would wait for lunch-time to have their mid-day meal. A concerned school teacher, Shipra Tiwari noticed the dwindling attendance and decided to do something about it. Shipra decided to make learning fun for them so that they came to school by choice and not by compulsion. She resorted to new and innovative methods of teaching instead of the conventional one. Puppet Show Puppets were among her first teaching tools that sparked an interest in her students. Shipra started taking lessons and conveying important messages through puppets. For instance, with the help of puppets, she taught the children the importance of hygiene. When word spread about the gudda-guddi (puppet) show, students started attending classes and the classroom was full of students. Bottle Garden Session Another activity which garnered a lot of interest among students was the bottle garden activity. In this activity, old bottles were collected and transformed into beautiful planters. The motto here was ‘Best out of Waste’. With this concept, the students went on to decorate the entire school as well as their homes. Apart from the wacky tools which she brings to make learning fun, she also uses modern tools on android apps. Now, her class is chock-o-block with students. Her presence itself fills the class with excitement as she enters cheerfully with a spring in her feet. She is a funky modern teacher who flaunts tattoos and so students call her tattoo-wali teacher. Hats off to this great teacher who went out of the way to awaken interest and passion for learning among her students.
