Parsee General Hospital will admit patients of all communities
The BD Petit Parsee General Hospital at Cumballa Hill which earlier served people only from Parsee community will now admit patients from other communities as well. Set up in 1912, this is the first time in its 105 year history that its doors will be open to serve all people irrespective of the community to which they belong. The hospital has approved the construction of another building at its Cumballa Hill premises, which will admit non Parsee patients. The officials at the hospital said that they were waiting for the civic and state approvals to construct another building in its premises which will have 200 beds. Homa Petit, president of the hospital, said that the new wing will serve people from all communities while the existing hospital will cater only to the Parsee community. The profit from the additional hospital will be used to provide free or highly subsidised healthcare to patients from the community. He said that their aim was to provide state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities at affordable rates to patients on the campus itself. Hospital sourced said that as most beds in the existing hospital were free or highly subsidised, it was becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with the latest technology or provide advanced medical services with the dwindling funds. Therefore, it was decided to start another hospital in its premises to cater to all people and the additional income so generated will help in increasing the funds.
