Responsible NRI billionaire donates generously for child welfare

Anil Agarwal, the NRI billionaire who controls the London listed Vedanta Resources has pledged 75 percent of his family wealth for nurturing over 7.5 crore underprivileged children below the poverty line. According to the US magazine Forbes, the generous mining baron had a net worth of $2.4 billion as on July 1, 2017. He is ranked 603rd on the world's billionaire list according to the Forbes magazine, he is the 63rd richest Indian. In an interview, Agarwal said that he strongly believed in giving back to the society and has, therefore, pledged 75 percent of his family wealth for uplifting and nurturing underprivileged children. For this reason, his company has invested Rs 400 crore to start Nand Ghars, which is a unique initiative to strengthen the foundation of children below the age of seven years by providing them with adequate nutrition, health and education. Around 7.5 crore children living in remote areas will benefit from this initiative. Designed in partnership with the Ministry of Women and Child Development, this project will bring about improvement in pre-primary education, healthcare, nutrition for children and economic empowerment for women in rural India. These Nand Ghars will be equipped with sufficient amenities like clean toilets, safe drinking water, electricity through solar panels and various education and recreation facilities.
