Scientists Identify A Moss That Removes Lead From Water
Lead-contaminated water is a serious threat to the environment if left untreated. Now, scientists have identified a type of moss that can efficiently absorb a large amount of lead. While the typical way to remove lead or other heavy metals from water requires fossil fuels and a tremendous amount of energy, this moss will prove to be a green alternative for decontaminating polluted water and soil. This moss can be included in the phytoremediation process which is a method that uses photosynthesizing organisms to clean up soil or water contamination.
