Justice Prevailed: Meet IPS Officer Merin Joseph Who Is Valiant and Fierce
Merin Joseph who was recently assigned as the District Police Chief of Kollam City made headlines for her valiant act. The officer along with her team went to Riyadh and captured Sunil Kumar Bhadran who was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl. Sunil committed the heinous crime when he came for a vacation in Kerala in 2017. An Interpol notice had been issued but, no action was taken against him. And when Merin started taking a look at the pending cases, she came across this one and learned that the man was a fugitive. In an interview with The News Minute, Merin spoke about how they worked on the case as she said: “This was the first time that we would be doing such an extradition. I wanted to learn how it works so that I could, in turn, share the knowledge with my team. There was a lot of paperwork, it involved the CBI and the Interpol too. We also had to make documents to bring him back. This is why I decided to go. I am also passionate about cases involving women and children, and this was a man I believed should be brought back to face trial.” The 13-year-old girl who was sexually abused for three months committed suicide in 2017. There are many other such cases which never get highlighted or come in front of us. It’s sad that despite the evolution India is still not a completely safe place for women. However, thanks to officers like Merin for giving justice to the victims. The world needs more such fierce women. Image Courtesy: Kollam City Police Twitter
