West Bengal Shooters Get An Edge
The Kolkata police have set up a state of art shooting range, of Olympic standard to provide training to West Bengal shooters and prepare them for the world stage. It will be open for the classes and masses of the city on November 11. The Kolkata Police's Modern Shooting Range at Police Training School has been established to promote shooting as a sport and to provide an opportunity to the common people. The Kolkata police wrote in its Facebook page that they have received over 600 applications and that the participants will be selected through draw of lots. DC Traffic V Solomon, who is also a national level shooter is in charge of the whole process. Talking to reporters, he said that this is a first of its kind shooting range not only in Kolkata but in the entire eastern India. He said that they had been thinking of this kind of project for the past couple of years and have finally succeeded. Their main focus is to create new shooters from Bengal. While shooting academies in Kolkata are quite expensive, the one set up by the police charge only Rs 200 for practice per month. Solomon added that they hope that shooters trained at their shooting range become the pride of Bengal and are trying to get some financial help from the government.
