Bengaluru Airport Will Be First In Asia To Set Up 25 Tonne Waste Facility
The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) will soon become the first airport in Asia to set up an in-house integrated solid waste management (SWM) facility. It has selected Polish company Ekolog Ltd as the implementation partner on this design-build-own-operate (DBOO) project. The KIA airport generates over 20 tonnes of waste every day. Phase 1 of the facility can process 25 tonnes per day, scalable to 60 tonnes. It is expected to become operational in January 2019. The scientific and systematic waste management system is regarded as a big leap towards sustainability.
