US body announces scholarship programme for Indian woman
The Institute of International Education (IIE) along with investment banking Goldman Sachs has announced a scholarship programme for Indian woman in the field of computer science, engineering and other technology. This initiative will see 25 Indian women receive a $ 1,500 scholarship under the ‘WeTech Goldman Sachs Scholars’. Goldman Sachs will also provide them with a mentor for a six month mentorship programme from June to December 2017. The IIE website will accept applications from second and third year undergraduate students from March 30 to May 15, 2017 and winners of the scholarship will be announced in June 2017. Shubha Iyer, managing director in the Technology division at Goldman Sachs in Bengaluru said that engaging women at various stages from their academic years to a career is a critical step in addressing the gender gap that is often seen in the technology industry. Allan Goodman, IIE president and CEO said that this initiative has been taken as the world needs more women who are educated and trained to entering into STEM careers and work with peers across many different countries and cultures. The Institute is interested in promoting ICT( Information and Communication Technologies) education among young Indian women by expanding their opportunities, broadening their network and building their leadership skills. The topics covered by the students and mentors include career planning, interview skills and professional networking.
