Soon, Painful Injections Will Be a Thing of the Past!
Most of you would be very relieved to know that soon, we can do away with painful injections as scientists at Gujarat’s B V Patel Pharmaceutical Education and Research Development(PERD) have invented microneedles that will work as effectively as conventional injections, minus the pain. Patch In Place Of Needle The injection can be replaced by the newly developed patch which looks like a small adhesive bandage. The patch consists of many micro needles which are not visible to the naked eye. These microneedles deliver the drug beneath the skin into the blood vessel and dissolve on its own within just ten minutes because it is polymer-based. The best part about this patch is that it won’t need sterilization and it nulls out any dangers of reuse that are usually associated with conventional needles. Benefits The patch embedded with microneedles is made of a polymer which automatically dissolves after the drug is delivered. This polymer can be customized for immediate or later delivery of medicine. This patch is very user-friendly and negates the risk of infections and pain. It will act as a boon for kids who are very fearful of injections and have to be given injections mandatorily for vaccination purpose. Apart from kids, even elders who have to be given injections frequently for lifestyle diseases like diabetes and even cancer can adopt this pain-free method for the administration of drugs. The principal researcher on the project Dr Viral Shah said that his team of scientists has successfully tried this patch on animals and trials on humans will be conducted soon after a few more validations.
