Railways to start Double Decker AC equipped train in July
The Indian Railways is all set to introduce in July a special double decker, air-conditioned train service for overnight journeys on high-demand routes such as New Delhi-Lucknow. The train which goes by the name Utkrisht Double-Decker AC Yatri Express, or Uday Express, will not have sleeper berths but only comfortable reclining chairs. Each coach has a capacity to seat 120 people. Hot food and beverage vending machines will also be made available for the passengers. An official from the railway ministry said that the Uday Express will serve high-density routes like Delhi-Lucknow. The fare will be lower than that of the 3AC class in regular mail and express trains even though passengers can avail of more and better amenities. Each coach will be installed with a large LCD television screen, and passengers will hear the sound through Wi-Fi connected headphones provided at their seats. An official said that steps have been taken to make the journey as comfortable as possible with many added facilities in order to compensate for the absence of sleeper berths in the train that will make overnight journeys. There will be adequate leg space in between the seats, and the interiors will be aesthetically designed to give a modern look. All coaches will be equipped with bio-toilets. The train was announced in the rail budget 2016-17. It is designed to run at 110 kms per hour.
