Slim & Sleek: Unveiling the World's Skinniest Hotel Marvel in Indonesia
A unique architectural wonder is captivating social media's attention: the peculiar structure dubbed the "world's skinniest hotel." Nestled amidst an alleyway and residential houses in Salatiga, Central Java, Indonesia, this slender building has captured the world's attention with its innovative design and functionality. Originally a dumping ground, the site now hosts the extraordinary creation envisioned by architect Ary Indra for the PituRooms Project. The hotel, spanning five floors within a mere nine-foot width, ingeniously accommodates seven rooms. It also boasts of a rooftop lounge. Overcoming challenges posed by limited space, Indra strategically employed a deep foundation to ensure the hotel's stability. However, the real challenge lay in defying conventional hospitality norms favoring superlatives like "biggest" or "most luxurious." "We turned this limitation into our strongest asset, offering guests an exploration of micro-space, experiencing 'just enough' living and movement," expressed Indra, emphasizing the innovative nature of the project. With functionality at its core, the architecture features machinery and service rooms cleverly positioned atop the structure with cantilevered steel grating. Notably, the building incorporates gill-like features to facilitate natural ventilation. The hotel's ingenious design has stirred waves on social media. Users can’t help admiring the compact rooms equipped with amenities and captivating artwork. Beyond its novelty, it stands as a groundbreaking response to land-related challenges in small Indonesian towns.
