Eco friendly Ganeshas to be distributed in Hyderabad
Ahead of Vinayaka Chaturthi, Hyderabad is planning to go green and curb pollution by distributing eco-friendly Ganeshas. Over 2 lakh green Ganesh idols will be distributed in the city this year. On Thursday, an awareness programme was organized by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department at Shilpakala Vedika to promote the use of clay Ganesha idols. School children, as well as officials from various state government bodies, attended the event. MAUD minister, K T Rama Rao, said that over two lakh eco-friendly Ganesh idols will be distributed in the city this year by the state government on Vinayaka Chaturthi. For the successful implementation of the programme, the Pollution Control Board and the civic bodies have agreed to set up special stalls at different locations to distribute the green Ganesha idols to the public. In order to prevent the Hussainsagar lake from getting polluted due to immersions, the GHMC has decided to construct additional artificial ponds for the immersion of Ganesh idols. The construction of at least 15 ponds will be completed before the immersion date, officials said. A statement released by the GHMC states that the ponds are being constructed at a cost of 22 crores to reduce pollution in Hussainsagar and other water bodies of the city.
