Digital courses for students launched
Digital Education in India has got a boost on Sunday with the launch of hundreds of courses that will be rendered through DTH channels, tablets and mobiles. Over 1,000 expert faculty members from premier institutions like IITs, JNU, Delhi University and Anna University have designed and developed these courses. A 'Made in India' IT platform called MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) or ‘Swayam’ has been created which will offer courses taught in classrooms from Class IX to post graduation. The courses will be accessible to all from anywhere at any time. The advantage of these courses is that they are interactive and free of cost.On clearing these online courses, students studying at various reputed institutions can earn credit points. Swayam is a platform of 32 DTH channels that will deliver courses wherein ten lakh students can access the course simultaneously. Provisions have been made for the National Academic Depository (NAD) to facilitate online verification of certificates. For the convenience of the students, the courses offered on Swayam will be in four quadrants -video lecture, specially prepared reading material that can be downloaded/printed, self-assessment tests through tests and quizzes and an online discussion forum for clearing doubts.
