Pune University software to map tell all signs of criminals on road
Centre for Intelligent Systems, a department of Savitribai Phule Pune University has developed a software which issues alerts to the concerned authorities as soon as any misbehaviour of pedestrians or drivers is tracked through surveillance cameras. There is already a system of CCTV cameras in place, but it does not issue alerts. This software is capable of alerting the concerned persons by interpreting the gestures of drivers and pedestrians. Sometimes, the alert could also be a false alarm, but it helps to increase alertness of law enforcing authorities. The success rate of this software is good as police have received interesting feedback about vehicles cutting lanes or jumping signals and as many as 175 cases have been recorded. The team is now collecting more footage and date from the police and bank officials to improve the accuracy of the software. They intend to provide a complete end-to-end solution to make it an affordable technology for societal use. Graduate and under graduate students of engineering and technology courses at the university are conducting this research through planned learning activities and they hope to blend them with current market trends thus making state-of-art inventions and innovations.
