Chhattisgarh to Develop India's Fourth Science City in Nava Raipur

The Chhattisgarh government has unveiled plans to develop India's fourth Science City in Nava Raipur, a senior official has confirmed. This ambitious project aims to foster a spirit of exploration, enhance creative talent, and provide an immersive learning environment for scientific development among the youth. Building the Science City: A Vision for the Future The Science City will span across 35 acres of land and is expected to be completed within 60 months. The estimated cost for establishing the Science City is ₹232.70 crores, with ₹118.14 crores funded by the Government of India and ₹114.56 crores contributed by the state government. The proposal for the Science City has been sent to the finance department for consideration. Creating an Immersive Learning Environment The Science City in Nava Raipur aims to provide a comprehensive center for scientific understanding and exploration. It will feature a range of attractions, including a Food Court, Science and Technology Heritage Park, Geological Park, Open Air Exhibits, Musical Fountain, Solar Energy Powered Educational Science Park, Bio-dome, Butterfly Garden, and Dino Park rides. These attractions are designed to engage visitors and create an environment conducive to learning and experimentation. A Boost to Scientific Understanding and Recreation The establishment of the Science City is expected to have a significant scientific impact on the community and contribute to the overall development of the state. The director general of Chhattisgarh Regional Science Centre, SS Bajaj, believes that the Science City will not only enhance the scientific understanding of visitors but also serve as a recreational destination. This dual purpose will make it an attractive venue for both educational and leisure activities. Joining the Ranks of Science City Pioneers Currently, Science Cities are developed in only three cities in India: Kolkata by the central government, and Gujarat and Jalandhar by their respective state governments. With the upcoming Science City in Nava Raipur, Chhattisgarh aims to join this elite group and contribute to the country's scientific progress. Chhattisgarh's Narwa Project Breathes New Life into Dying Canals, Ensuring Water Conservation and Rural Development

In a remarkable initiative aimed at water conservation and rural development, Chhattisgarh's Narwa project has brought dying canals back to life, rejuvenating water channels and improving groundwater levels. The project, which began in mid-2019, has already revived an impressive 6,395 rivulets, culverts, and water resources in the forested areas of the state. Under the flagship programme of Narwa-Garwa-Guruwa-Baari, the Narwa project focuses on the revival of canals to boost the rural economy. The state forest department, in collaboration with the Chhattisgarh Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA), has played a key role in implementing this innovative concept. Using GIS-based data, the project selected sites for the treatment of drainage lines and watercourses. Forest personnel received expert training on mobile applications, GIS-based surveys, and natural resource management. Catchment Area Treatment plans were meticulously prepared to reduce run-off, prevent soil erosion, and enhance groundwater levels. The project also involved interactive sessions with village communities to ensure their participation and support. Chhattisgarh's intricate network of water bodies had suffered due to forest degradation, changes in land use, and increased pressure on natural ecosystems. This led to rapid water run-off, groundwater depletion, soil erosion, and reduced land productivity. However, the Narwa project has successfully safeguarded the fertile topsoil, maintained groundwater levels, and ensured perennial streams that cater to the needs of the ecosystem and local communities throughout the year. The project has not only improved the quality of forest cover but also provided irrigation facilities to local villagers, contributing to sustainable rural development. With over 130 lakh groundwater augmentation structures constructed since 2019, the initiative has not only restored watercourses but also increased groundwater levels by more than 20 cm in surrounding regions. The treated canals now serve as a year-round water source for wildlife, agriculture, fisheries, and local inhabitants.

The Upcoming Garbage Cafe in Chhattisgarh Will Benefit Ragpickers

Waste management is essential to keep the environment healthy and ragpickers work hard every day to keep our surroundings spick and span. But is the community getting what they deserve? Are we acknowledging their work? Well! There are people who think of them. Recently a 14-year-old girl, Sanjana Runwal donated raincoats and gumboots to 200 ragpickers in Mumbai. And now another news has made us elated. A Cafe With a Great Approach The very first garbage café of India will soon be launched in Chhattisgarh and we are grateful to Ambikapur Municipal Corporation for making this happen. Ragpickers and underprivileged people are going to benefit a lot from this café. They will be provided with a free meal if they hand over 1 kg of plastic waste and breakfast will be given to those who will give away 500 grams of plastic waste. While talking to ANI, the Mayor of Ambikapur, Ajay Tirkey said: "Our door-to-door waste collection process is already in place. We also re-sell plastic. The initiative will become successful. In the budget, we have allocated Rs 6 lakh for the café.” The garbage café will not only benefit the underprivileged people and ragpickers but, will also help in keeping the city cleaner. Our country can be free of waste if such initiatives are taken in every city.
