This day is chosen as on May 16, 1763, English writer and lexicographer Samuel Johnson and Scottish lawyer and author James Boswell met for first time. Both of them became fast friends. When Johnson left for his heavenly abode, James Boswell wrote Samuel Johnson's biography. ‘The Life of Samuel Johnson’ is famous as one of the greatest biographies ever published in English. This book influenced greatly the evolution of the modern genre of biography. James Boswell is considered as one of the most famous biographers. So much so, that his last name is being used presently, as a term for a biographer who gets information by close observation of the subject individual. Biographer's Day is an occasion to realize the importance of genre of biography. This has gained popularity in recent times.  One can celebrate the day by reading a biography one has never read before. One can also reread  an old favorite biography.
