Google based toilet locator launched
Google maps will now help people to locate the nearest toilet in Delhi. Around 331 public toilets in New Delhi areas have been mapped to Google. This initiative was launched on Wednesday by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) with the intent to make the areas cleaner. NDMC chairperson Naresh Kumar said that all the toilets have been mapped to help people locate it easily. The NDMC mobile application 'NDMC311' can be downloaded from play store. It will help people to locate the nearest toilet. Users are encouraged to rate the service so that NDMC can improve its infrastructure and amenities. Kumar said that the feedback will help to create a database of crowdsourced content. The ministry of urban development also launched a Google-based toilet locator awareness campaign at a smart toilet block in Rafi Marg. The campaign which began on July 12 will continue till August 11 and thereafter the cleanest toilet will be awarded. Praveen Prakash, Swachh Bharat Mission director and joint secretary urban development ministry said that this exercise involves first locating all toilets in different places including, petrol pumps, malls, railway stations, bus-stands and other public places in Delhi and NCR. With this campaign, Delhi will move a step closer to be a clean city.
