A year long anti-drug campaign
The Delhi government has taken into its hands the fight against drug abuse by planning a year-long anti-drug campaign which will be launched on Wednesday. The campaign begins with a seminar at Ambedkar University. Various surveys were conducted for past few years and the results have revealed that there is an increasing trend of drug addiction among youth. This habit later induces them to commit related crimes. The anti-drug campaign will be run by the social welfare department to create awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. An official said that in the next phase, the drive will be extended to schools and residential areas. It will move to different colleges of Delhi University, IP University and Delhi Technical University. Street plays and seminars will be held in which college students will actively participate. The department has partnered with NGOs and will also invite celebrities to give a thrust to the campaign. The official added that the department intends to hold 1,200 shows over the next year and has already registered 12 drama societies for the campaign.
