India's Chandrayaan-3 mission has etched its name in the history of space exploration by becoming the first mission to successfully land near the lunar South Pole. This remarkable feat has earned it the prestigious World Space Award, bestowed by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF).
India joins an elite group of nations— the United States, Russia, and China— that have achieved the milestone of a soft landing on the Moon. However, India's distinction lies in being the first to land near the lunar South Pole, a region of immense scientific interest due to its permanently shadowed craters that may hold water ice and other valuable resources.
The IAF World Space Award
The IAF World Space Award is a distinguished accolade given for exceptional contributions in various fields of space science and technology. The award honors advancements that significantly propel global progress in astronautics, including space medicine, space law, and space management.
