The Indian Navy got a boost last week as the United States cleared the sale of predator Guardian drones that India had sought in order to enhance its Navy’s intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities.

Modi’s US visit brought about this great development as both PM Modi and President Donald Trump signed a key defence agreement after they had pledged for security and co-operation between the two countries.

After the Modi-Trump Summit at the White House, a joint statement was issued stating that India and the US will work together on advanced defence equipment and technology at a level commensurate with that of America’s closest allies and partners.

In this context, the US has agreed to the sale of Sea Guardian Unmanned Aerial Systems, which would enhance India’s capabilities and promote shared security interests.

The trilateral Malabar naval exercise involving the US, Japan and India will take place soon and leaders of both the countries have decided to look at new exercises and enhance their engagements on shared maritime objectives.

Reiterating the importance of a successful security partnership between the United States and India, Trump said that the US and Indian military forces are working every day to enhance cooperation between them and next month, they will participate, along with Japan in the largest maritime exercise ever conducted in the vast Indian Ocean.
