One of the best tourist cities of India, Udaipur in Rajasthan is going to have more modern and eco friendly railway stations. New amenities have been launched including passenger-operated enquiry terminals (POET), a solar plant, a current berth availability display system etc.
Mayor Chandra Singh Kothari inaugurated the facilities in a ceremony at the city railway station on Tuesday. The function was also attended by Anil Singhal, general manager of North Western Railway and Puneet Chawla, the divisional railway manager, Ajmer.
Maharana Pratap, is the most respected king in Rajasthan's history. Therefore, during the ceremony, a grand statue of Maharana Pratap was unveiled at the station. The Maharana Pratap Museum, Haldighati provided the 6-foot-tall statue which weighs 220 kilograms for the occasion.
The passengers can get details of PNR status, tatkal and train accommodation, fare details, coach positions etc. through the four POET machines. One new facility has also been introduced where passengers can get display of current berth availability system in which the status of vacant seats is displayed after the chart is prepared by the system.
A passenger can then make a reservation in the desired category. Television sets have been installed at reservation counters to display the system
