The Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) has succeeded in lighting up a total of 3,526 households that fall under 171 remote tribal hamlets in Visakhapatnam district by harnessing solar power. This is part of the venture that has led to 7,000 households being electrified in the state.
As part of the government's intention of complete rural electrification, solar projects were introduced to cover remote tribal hamlets, which are not possible to get power from the general grid. Now, the tribals are a happy lot as with solar power, many opportunities have opened for them.
