When Delhi’s air pollution reached alarming levels, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal introduced driving restrictions: Cars with odd and even number plates would be allowed to run on alternate days. This decision led to a problem of transportation to which Akshay Mittal had a solution, a website called odd-even.com which matched odd-numbered car owners with even numbered ones, based on timings, gender, profession and age.
The website got 30,000 registrations during the first phase alone. In April last year, he sold his app to the ride-sharing app, Orahi, retaining a board seat. He is among the youngest entrepreneurs in the world and sees himself as one who wants to build and scale social impact ventures to build new India.
