The prototype Lightyear One all-electric Dutch car was recently unveiled in Katwijk, Netherlands. It is the world’s first long-range solar car which can charge itself with the sunlight. Lightyear One was launched in 2016, it was announced in June 2019 and its production will start from 2021.
Both the roof and the hood of the car has five square meters of integrated solar cells within the robust and safe glass which allows it to absorb sunlight.
CNN Business reports that the Lightyear One has a charging port but, with the help of the solar panels, the car’s batteries can be charged at a rate of almost 7.5 miles in every hour.
The batteries can offer a range of 450 miles after one charge. The car’s wheels are independently driven so no energy will get wasted during the transit from the engine to the wheel. In order to maintain passenger’s safety, the car is constructed from high-tech materials which have the lowest weight possible.
You won’t have to worry about charging your car every time it runs out of energy if you own a Lightyear One. You can rather roam freely by letting the solar panels absorb the sunlight. What a great invention it is. We are in awe.
