A lot of people have started fitting air conditioners in their rooms as the temperature is not willing to drop. But, an IAS officer posted in Umaria, Madhya Pradesh as a collector did just the opposite to help malnourished children in the district.
Swarochish Somavanshi moved the AC from his cabin and the meeting rooms for 100 malnourished children. It has been said that in Umaria, most of the kids who are admitted in the nutritional rehabilitation centers are branded by iron rods by their parents to treat the condition.
The collector’s move was so inspirational that in three days people ended up donating Rs 5 lakh. While talking about their initiative, Sanjeevani with TOI, Swarochish said: “We have initiated a scheme named Sanjeevani in our district aimed at addressing the problem of malnutrition in our district. There are four NRCs and are around 100 children admitted there. He also added that the difference between Umaria’s NRC and other cities’ nutritional rehabilitation centers is that the children here suffer from burn injuries due to the tribal superstitions. And the infection may become intense if the temperature soars.
Swarochish’s thought has the ability to bring a huge difference in society. Things will take a positive turn if we start thinking like him.
