City officials in Chhindwara have come up with a novel idea to keep their city clean. Chhindwara, a city near Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh is all set to become a shining example to all those who are willing to adhere to the mission of Swachh Bharat.
Many people in our country are unable to afford a single meal. Under these circumstances, this idea caters to the people who are less privileged and in turn, also helps to achieve an important need and goal of the society.
The scheme involves offering free food to anyone who brings garbage in the form of plastics and polythene bags. Garbage in plastic bags littered along the roads is an eyesore and requires active participation from locals for its removal. Therefore the civic authorities came up with this scheme which largely benefits the ragpickers and poor people. In fact, the ragpickers are already being provided with free food. There are about 150 registered ragpickers in the district who have been provided with identity cards and safety kits from the Chhindwara Municipal Corporation(CMC).
Municipal Commissioner Icchit Gadhpale stated that all those who wish to avail free food only have to dump all the plastics that they have collected into the segregation units and get food coupons in exchange. He further said that anyone, even if a trader sends his workers with segregated garbage, they are entitled to the free food coupons. This scheme has already got many takers and is proving to be a big success.
This initiative serves the double purpose of serving the poor and maintaining cleanliness in the city.
