Life gets a little tough at times, it breaks us completely but, not forever because our experiences make us capable of getting through every hardship. Likewise, life was not fair for Yogita Raghuvanshi from Bhopal when she got into an unfortunate marriage, things got even more challenging after she lost her husband in a road accident in 2003. But who knew she would leave all the difficulties behind and fulfil the responsibilities successfully?
Despite, holding a degree in commerce and being a qualified lawyer, Yogita chose to explore the roads, witness the dawn and the dusk in her truck. She thought initially her degree won’t fetch her the money she would require thus, decided to become a truck driver.
When 49-year-old Yogita looked at the road ahead, she couldn’t think of anything except for her two children and today she is raising them well. She says people support her and respect her for the work she is into and even other truck drivers appreciate her.
Yogita did hear a lot of unacceptable comments when she started her career as a truck driver but, nothing bothered her. She drives with a lot of confidence and never felt scared of the long journeys or a rough road.
When you travel, communication becomes one of the most essential things and for Yogita it is not a problem at all. She is not only fluent in Hindi and English but, also know Telegu, Gujarati, and Marathi. Hence, communicating gets easy for her.
Yogita did not try her luck at driving a truck to break gender stereotypes but, to support her family as she told The Hindu “I certainly am not doing this job because of a resolve to break stereotypes. I am behind this wheel owing to my circumstances. So please don’t make out as if I am from another world.”
Believing in yourself can drag you out of an unwanted situation and give you a life much sorted. People like Yogita give hope to all those who want a different life for themselves.
