Marathons and a bottle of potable drinking water go hand in hand but, the runners of London marathon were given something out of the box to quench their thirst. It’s essential to ensure zero waste by the end of any event. And keeping the same in mind, the organizers of LME chose to give a biodegradable capsule called OOHO to the participants instead of plastic water bottles.
The OOHO blobs are made out of seaweed extract and are 100% edible. The ones designed for the marathon consist of Lucozade Sport orange, you can either pop it or have it naturally by giving the blob a bite. And if you don’t wish to eat it, throw it on the road as it will biodegrade in less than six weeks.
More than 30, 000 biodegradable capsules were given to the participants which curbed down a huge amount of waste.
Lucozade sports collaborated with Skipping Labs Rocks, a materials engineering company which designed the OOHO capsules. Their primary objective is to make packaging disappear hence; they want people to think outside the bottle.
OOHO is a great source of hydration and we hope it gets launched in several other countries soon.
