The capabilities of an autistic person are often doubted but, for the founders of Rising Tide Car Wash in Parkland, Florida, autism is not a disability. Founded by the father-son duo, John and Tom D’Eri, the enterprise has employed most of their employees with autism. Through this act, they work towards changing the perception of people regarding autism. By employing autistic people, they also give them an opportunity to be independent.
Tom’s brother Andrew is also autistic and they didn’t know how he would cope with the world or make a career when he grows up. But today Andrew is leading a normal life and working happily at the Rising Tide Car wash.
The father-son duo has set equal standards at work and they expect their autistic employees to meet their goals because they are no different for them. Every autistic person at Rising Tide Car wash comes every day with the purpose of working hard and to become their best selves.
John and Tom’s endeavour has changed the lives of around 80 autistic people. Today they are confident and working shoulder to shoulder with each other in a place where they are treated normally.
